The mission of the University of Pittsburgh Human Research Protection (HRP) division is to protect the rights and welfare of people who participate in research at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC consistent with ethical principles and federal, state and local regulations. HRP staff members are committed to providing support and guidance to the research community, as well as ongoing support and advice on issues that arise during the conduct of research.  The HRP also oversees the functions of the Institutional Review Board.

Training for IRB Members

All IRB members must complete training on policies, procedures and regulations.  The training provides an overview of human subject protections as well as practical training for reviews.
