Common Rule Compliance Date Delayed Again

Common Rule Compliance Date Delayed Once More

As we're continuing to provide the University of Pittsburgh research community with updates, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, along with the 16 Common Rule departments, announced earlier this week that the general compliance date for The Common Rule has been delayed an additional six months to January 21, 2019.   The provisions were scheduled to go into effect on July 19, 2018.  The HHS announcement can be read in full here.

The announcement outlines the use of three burden reducing provisions.  The HRPO is still deciding if and how to implement these provisions.  Further information will be forthcoming.

Studies must continue to comply with the pre-2018 Rule until January 21, 2019.  Please contact us through askirb@pitt.edu with questions and put Common Rule Delay in the subject line.
