Important Information Regarding HIPAA Training for Researchers

Historically, those who were conducting human subject research that involved accessing protected health information were required to complete the Internet-Based Studies in Education and Research (ISER) HIPAA for Researchers (Module 6).

This module has been removed and all users must now complete the CITI Privacy & Information Security course

  • The Primary Investigator must attest in OSIRIS question 2.14.1 that any member of the research team who encounters protected health information has completed the CITI Privacy & Information Security course

  • Those who completed ISER prior to August 2016 must complete the CITI Privacy & Information Security course by December 31, 2017

  • Those who completed ISER after August 1, 2016 will have until August 1, 2018 to complete the CITI Privacy & Information Security course

Learners should go to www.citi.pitt.edu to complete the Privacy & Information Security course.  Detailed information about the training requirements is available at http://www.rcco.pitt.edu/
